Pnyx Hill

The hill was the home of 5th and 4th-century Athenian democracy. This outdoor space is where 2500 years ago, the “ekklesia” or citizens’ assembly met. They discussed the critical affairs of the state in upwards of 40 annual meetings per year. The speakers’ platform is still visible today, and it is on this spot that the great leaders of Athenian history once made their case. Themistocles, Pericles, and Demosthenes
